Must be US citizen/lawful permanent resident and able to read and write the English language, as required by RCW 41.14.100. Must have a high school diploma or a GED, a valid US Driver's License. Have no record of felony conviction and no record of gross misdemeanor/misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving controlled substances or physical harm. Must be willing to submit to and pass a background investigation, as well as polygraph, psychological, and medical examinations.
Have a current Washington State CJTC Corrections Officer Academy certification or a current Washington State DOC Correctional Worker CORE certification or have an equivalent certification from another state-approved Corrections Officer Academy. Lateral applicants who received CORE certification after July 1, 2021 must attend the full Corrections Officer Academy. Those applicants, and those applying from out-of-state, must pass a physical ability test (PAT).
